Edito
Who would have imagined, for one second, that the Trans Musicales would derogate from their philosophy in order to celebrate their 30th edition? Would you? On the contrary, what better, more beautiful occasion than a birthday to honour their raison d'être; defending their principles against all odds (moroseness, narrowness, cold feet), to keep the flame of rebellion and originality alive in a mistreated world. The Trans Musicales made it clear from the first edition, in June 1979: "what we are about, what we want to do is defend and promote a new vision of music that differs from what the public is being force-fed". And they did! Things have come a long way since then, when possibilities seemed endless; with the increasing number of concerts and the Internet, artists became more accessible. And yet, bad habits are hard to break and choosing the path of least resistance remains firmly embedded in everyday life. The Trans Musicales prefer to stubbornly stand up for their principles, always choosing the challenge and the thrill of the unknown.
When wallowing in nostalgia seems the normal way to be, the Trans Musicales cannot afford to relax and give themselves a pat on the back. There's a lot left to do and no time to relive past glories.
When many seek refuge in the ordinariness of everyday life, the Trans once more place their bets on a different place. A place where boundaries no longer exist, a place that reaches out for you... what gift can you bring for such a birthday then? Just be part of it!
